Patient Testimonials on Weight:

I first saw Dr. Castellanos in January 2001 when I couldn’t get rid of a cold –these colds were repeating and I could never shake them. After my first visit, I started taking medicine for high blood pressure (it was 155/100). I weighed 253 lbs. Dr C. changed my diet and started me on a walking program. I started walking a half an hour, five days a week. Then I progressed to one hour, five days a week after about three months. After about 18 months, Dr C. said I needed to push up my level of exercise. He suggested jogging. I hate running so I took up bicycling. I now bicycle at least five days a week for at least one hour- that means I bicycle 12-15 miles per day.

>My vascular study, I started with one “swish” in each foot. You are supposed to have 3 swishes. Now I have 3 swishes!

>My treadmill test showed after 3 ½ years my resting heart rate is lower. My heart pumps more blood and I recover faster when it’s over.

The hardest part is what you eat. It is hard to eat the right things every day. I think the people closest to you help you the least, mainly because they don’t understand. The media doesn’t help, restaurants don’t help. You have to work at eating right. There is one saying that helped me- “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” There may be some things that come close, but not close enough. Almost all the problems we have with our body is because of what we eat. I grew up on a ranch in southern Wyoming, so I was a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Dr. Castellanos raises horses. I grew up around horses. Dr. C. said look at a horse, they have the same digestive tract as man, and what do they eat? Grass-plants. I think the point Dr. C. was trying to make was that I didn’t have to eat meat at every meal.

But eating right every day is a struggle-it’s hard. Exercising is something you have to make a point to do every day. But it is worth every second you do it. It is not over for me, I have done something good for my body, but it is not over yet
